The issue is delivery. Calcium cannot redistribute within the plant once deposited. It goes where the water goes first. Under-watering, inconsistent irrigation, or high transpiration demand during heat spikes all reduce calcium delivery to fruit and developing tissue.
Nutrient competition makes it worse. High potassium levels in standard fertilizer programs interfere with calcium uptake at the root surface. High calcium inputs, including lime applications, suppress magnesium in return. The two nutrients are antagonistic at the root level, which means correcting one without monitoring the other shifts the problem rather than resolves it.
