Hello, Guest My Account

01. What is the dilution rate for Nuke Em®?

We generally recommend 4oz/gal for foliar applications.

We ALMOST ALWAYS recommend 4oz/gal for root drench applications.

02. Can I increase the strength of Nuke Em®?

Yes, we do recommend the modified applications below for EXTREME infestations of pests. These directions are not generally recommended for use on powdery mildew or mold.

Before you apply Nuke Em® using one of the following modified applications, it is imperative to flush the plant site with Z7 treated water. You should have 20-50% runoff from the bottom of the container than what you put into it. Allow the treated water to drain to waste, do not allow the container to sit in the treated water. We ask you to do so to reduce the risk of adverse effects due to salt buildup in the medium. It is important to note that you should only apply to one test plant from each strain, wait 24-48 hours, and note if there are any adverse reactions before mass applying.

MODIFIED APPLICATION #1 – Most aggressive takedown method.

DAY ONE: Apply once at moderate/strong strength and allow it to dry. Spray a second time and allow it to dry. Spray a third time and allow to dry.

DAY THREE: Apply once at moderate/strong strength.

DAY SIX: Apply once at moderate/strong strength. Check for any signs of insects in the following days.

Moderate strength: 6oz Nuke Em® per gallon with 1-2 tsp of Spread Coat.

Aggressive strength: 8oz Nuke Em® per gallon with 1-2 tsp of Spread Coat.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Whenever using Nuke Em® at a dilution rate more than the standard strength (4oz/gal), it is important to test on one plant to make sure no burning occurs before applying to your entire crop!

MODIFIED APPLICATION #2 – Moderate takedown method.

DAY ONE: Apply once at moderate/strong strength and wait for it to dry. Spray a second time at moderate/strong strength and allow to dry.

DAY THREE: Apply once at moderate/strong strength.

DAY SIX: Apply once at moderate/strong strength. Check for any signs of insects in the following days.

MODIFIED APPLICATION #3 – Use this method following modified applications one or two until no further signs of insects can be found.

DAY ONE: Apply once at moderate/strong strength and wait for it to dry.

DAY THREE: Apply once at moderate/strong strength.

DAY SIX: Apply once at moderate/strong strength. Check for any signs of insects in the following days.

Pro Grower Tip: Because Nuke Em® is a contact killer, it is particularly important that Nuke Em® contacts every mite and egg. Even in the best conditions with careful applications it can be difficult to get complete coverage on the first spray. To increase the likelihood of complete coverage we recommend adding our wetting agent, SPREAD COAT. Spread Coat does a great job of allowing Nuke Em® to penetrate deep into nooks and crannies where pests tend to hide.

03. If I don't use all the diluted Nuke Em® in one application, how long will it be effective when diluted?

When you mix the Nuke Em® with water, it is best to apply the diluted product the same day. This is because the active ingredient, an enzyme, breaks down over time when out of concentrate. In concentrate it will generally last 2+ years, however, when mixed it begins to “use” the enzymes. Diluted product that has sat over 24 hours should be discarded. We aren’t worried about negative effects occurring if you use older Nuke Em®, it simply just won’t be as effective as recently mixed product.

Standard application rate: 4oz Nuke Em® concentrate per gallon with 1-2 tsp of Spread Coat.

04. Do I need to adjust the pH of my diluted Nuke Em® solution?

No, we don’t generally recommend adjusting the pH of your diluted Nuke Em®. This is because most growers use pH neutral water meaning that the amount of Nuke Em® added won’t make it necessary. We would, however, recommend adjusting it if you find that your water source causes the diluted solution to fall below pH 5.5.

05. Can I use Nuke Em® as a preventative?

Yes, spraying Nuke Em® weekly, whether or not you notice an issue, will keep most pests and pathogens under control. Remember, your best prevention is routine maintenance! If you never allow the pests or pathogens to gain a strong foothold in your garden it will be much easier to keep populations under control. We recommend using the standard strength for this application (4oz/gal). To increase the likelihood of complete coverage we recommend adding 1-2 tsp of our wetting agent, SPREAD COAT.

06. Can Nuke Em® be applied to buds and blooms?

Yes, Nuke Em® has been successful in eradicating insects and control mold and mildew during the flowering cycle with no negative results. We highly recommend using the standard strength (4oz/gal) when Nuke Em® is sprayed during this delicate phase of the plant’s life cycle. Nuke Em® will never cause the taste, smell, or look of the produce to be affected no matter how late in the life cycle of the plant you spray. You can even spray on the day of harvest or even post harvest!

07. I have an extreme infestation of spider mites, broad mites, Russet mites or Cyclamen mites. What are my options?

We recommend these modified applications for extreme infestations of pests:

Before you spray, flush the plant site with Z7 treated water. You should have 20-50% runoff from the bottom of the container than what you put into it. Wait one hour before applying Nuke Em® to make sure the plant is fully hydrated.

MODIFIED APPLICATION #1 – Most aggressive takedown method.

DAY ONE: Apply once at moderate/strong strength and wait for it to dry. Spray a second time and wait for it to dry. Spray a third time and allow to dry.

DAY THREE: Apply once at moderate/strong strength.

DAY SIX: Apply once at moderate/strong strength. Check for any signs of insects in the following days.

Moderate strength: 6oz Nuke Em® concentrate to a gallon sprayer with 1-2 tsp of Spread Coat.

Aggressive strength: 8oz Nuke Em® concentrate into a gallon sprayer with 1-2 tsp of Spread Coat.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Whenever using Nuke Em® at a dilution rate more than the standard strength (4oz/gal), it is important to test on one plant to make sure no burning occurs before applying to your entire crop!

MODIFIED APPLICATION #2  Moderate takedown method.

Because Nuke Em® is a contact killer, it is particularly important that Nuke Em® contacts every mite and egg.

08. I heard Nuke Em® kills root aphids safely and effectively so what is the proper process to eliminate them?

Before you apply Nuke Em® as a root drench, flush the plant site with Z7 treated water. You should have 20-50% runoff from the bottom of the container than what you put into it. Allow the treated water to drain to waste, do not allow the container to sit in the treated water. We ask you to do so to reduce the risk of adverse effects due to salt buildup in the medium. It is important to note that you should only apply to one test plant from each strain, wait 24-48 hours, and note if there are any adverse reactions before you mass apply.

Soil/Soilless Container Application:

Shake the bottle vigorously before diluting. You should never exceed the standard strength of Nuke Em® for this application method (4oz/gal). It is imperative to turn intense, high-powered HID lighting completely off during this process. Soak the planting site generously with the Nuke Em® solution, ideally submerging the container, and let the solution saturate the medium until all air bubbles stop. If soaking each pot individually is not feasible for your garden, you should apply enough Nuke Em® solution to the container as to completely saturate the medium until you notice substantial runoff. Allow the treated solution to sit in the container for 1-2 hours. It is vitally important to thoroughly flush the Nuke Em® treated containers with Z7 treated water again, pH adjusted to your target range, before HID lights are turned back on. Some customers have had more effective coverage by adding our wetting agent, SPREAD COAT. One application should suffice but you will definitely want to check your root zone(s) in the coming days to ensure that all the pests are dead, especially if your infestation was sizeable. Apply every 3rd day if the infestation persists.

Hydroponic Application:

Shake the bottle vigorously before diluting. You should never exceed the standard strength of Nuke Em® for this application method (4oz/gal). It is imperative to turn intense, high-powered HID lighting completely off during this process. Adjust the pH of the Nuke Em® dilute to your target pH. Drain the system and let the plants drip dry. Fill a bucket with diluted Nuke Em® at standard strength (4oz/gal) and dip the roots along with ALL growing media into the bucket. Pull the plant out, let the root ball and medium drain and place it back into the hydroponic system. For best results, the entire hydroponic system should be flushed with the Nuke Em® solution before turning on HID lamps. This procedure will kill adult, juvenile and larval aphids hiding in the hydroponic system itself.

Field Application:

Shake the bottle vigorously before diluting. You should always try the standard strength of Nuke Em® first (4oz/gal), however, it may be necessary to use the moderate or strong strength (6oz/gal or 8oz/gal) for this application to ensure enough Nuke Em® is reaching the pests. Whenever using Nuke Em® at the moderate or strong strength it is imperative to try on a single plant of each variety before mass applying. Application of the Nuke Em® solution should be done in evening after the threat of direct sunlight has passed or you may also apply it in the morning so long as the solution is in contact with the pests for 1-2 hours before direct sunlight hits them. Complete saturation of the soil with the Nuke Em® solution is imperative to control the pest’s population. Flush the planting sites generously with Z7 treated water, adjusting water to your target pH.

09. I can see powdery mildew on my plants, what can I do about it?

We recommend spraying once a week at the standard strength for a light accumulation of powdery mildew. This will control the spread of the pathogen to healthy plants. For heavy accumulations we recommend the standard strength every 3rd day to mitigate the spread. Remember some leaves have a waxy texture that will make Nuke Em® run off the leaf before it can work to its fullest potential. To increase the likelihood of complete coverage we recommend adding our wetting agent, SPREAD COAT. Spread Coat does a great job of allowing Nuke Em® to penetrate deep into nooks and crannies. We recommend the following dilution rates for the pair:

Standard application rate: 4oz Nuke Em® concentrate per gallon with 1-2 tsp of Spread Coat.

10. Should I add a wetting agent to Nuke Em®?

Yes, because some leaves have a waxy texture that will make Nuke Em® run off the leaf before it can work to its fullest potential. To increase the likelihood of complete coverage we recommend adding our wetting agent, SPREAD COAT. Spread Coat does a great job of allowing Nuke Em® to penetrate deep into nooks and crannies where pests tend to hide.

Standard application rate: 4oz Nuke Em® concentrate per gallon with 1-2 tsp of Spread Coat.

11. Is Nuke Em® available for sale in my state?

Nuke Em® is not available for sale in Indiana, Mississippi, and New Mexico as of October 9th, 2020. All 47 remaining states have been approved for sale! We are also on several states’ pesticide approval list for recreational and medicinal growing. Check out the National Pesticide Information Retrieval System for the most up-to-date information regarding registration in your state.

12. I was given some plants, should they be sprayed before I bring them into my garden?

Yes, absolutely. All plants brought into your garden should be quarantined for 10-14 days and treated as if they have every possible pest and pathogen. The real question is whether you should spray Nuke Em® or Clone Guard for the new arrivals. For plants that are not rooted/barely rooted, or generally under 6” height, we recommend using the Clone Guard. For plants larger than 6” we suggest you use the Nuke Em® at standard strength (4oz/gal) with Spread Coat. Make sure to hydrate the plant’s root system before spraying to avoid possible burning. It is also recommended to turn intense, high-powered HID lighting down or off.

13. My crop failed lab testing by having mold/mildew on it, what can I do?

Nuke Em® can be used post-harvest to successfully kill mold, mildew, and bugs so that your product will pass lab testing.

Post-harvest application rate: Dilute Nuke Em® to regular strength (4oz/gal) and soak your product so that it is thoroughly submerged. You should not keep the product in the solution for more than 5-10 seconds. Keep in mind that Nuke Em® must touch the powdery mold/mildew to kill it, however, more is not better in this instance. Allow the product to drip dry.

Flying Skull highly recommends the use of Nuke Em® as a maintenance spray to avoid this disaster so late into harvest. Often when we talk to growers about them using Nuke Em® as a weekly maintenance spray, most say they never get mold, mildew, or bugs. Every grower gets pests; it’s how you manage them that will save or devastate your crop.

14. How is your research and development going in regards to broad mites?

Nuke Em® is effective in eradicating broad mites but it is important to realize that that these little guys are a challenge to kill. You must completely cover them with spray. This is where Spread Coat comes in as a companion to Nuke Em®. It will increase the contact time of Nuke Em® and help to penetrate nooks and crannies of the plant where the broad mites hide.

The moderate and strong dilution rates can be found below. We recommend these modified applications for extreme infestations of pests:

MODIFIED APPLICATION #1 – Most aggressive takedown method.

DAY ONE: Apply once at moderate/strong strength and wait for it to dry. Spray a second time and wait for it to dry. Spray a third time and allow to dry.

DAY THREE: Apply once at moderate/strong strength.

DAY SIX: Apply once at moderate/strong strength. Check for any signs of insects in the following days.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Whenever using Nuke Em® at a higher dilution rate than the standard strength (4oz/gal), it is important to test on one plant to make sure no burning occurs before applying to your entire crop!

MODIFIED APPLICATION #3 – Use this method following modified applications one or two until no further signs of insects can be seen.

DAY ONE: Apply once at moderate/strong strength and wait for it to dry.

DAY THREE: Apply once at moderate/strong strength.

DAY SIX: Apply once at moderate/strong strength. Check for any signs of insects in the following days.

Before you spray, flush the plant site with Z7 treated water. You should have 20-50% runoff from the bottom of the container than what you put into it. Wait one hour before applying Nuke Em® to make sure the plant is fully hydrated.

Because Nuke Em® is a contact killer, it is particularly important that Nuke Em® contacts every mite and egg.

Moderate strength: 6oz Nuke Em® concentrate to a gallon sprayer with 1-2 tsp of Spread Coat.

Aggressive strength: 8oz Nuke Em® concentrate into a gallon sprayer with 1-2 tsp of Spread Coat.

15. What kind of sprayer do you recommend for a foliar application of Nuke Em®?

If you’re going to spray more than a few plants, we suggest a powered paint sprayer. Most hand-held paint sprayers do a good job of laying down a nice even coat. The Paint sprayers from your local hardware store with an orifice designed to spray lacquer paint also work well.

If you have larger plants/a lot of them, an airless paint sprayer from Graco with an orifice of 515 works well. You can add extensions to the spray gun so you can spray leaves way up high or get up into the inside of the plant. These types of sprayers have super lightweight spray guns and hoses. The hoses come in 25- and 50-foot lengths which really makes it easy on your arms and back. Growers who switch to airless sprayers and use our wetting agent, SPREAD COAT, reduce the amount of wasted Nuke Em® spray by 30% on average.

How’s that for reducing the cost of pesticide management!

16. Will Nuke Em® hurt my plant's resale value or leave them with a sticky and smelly residue like other insecticides?

No, absolutely not. Nuke Em® will never leave a plant sticky, nor will it change the flavor, smell, or look of your produce. Nuke Em® is made without chemical detergents, heavy oils or anything else that would affect the end product of your crop.

17. Should I water the plants before using Nuke Em®?

Yes, whether your plants are grown in soil or hydroponics, making sure the roots are hydrated before spraying is vitally important no matter what pesticide you use. For best results, use Z7 / SPREAD COAT to help break down salts that might have built up in your media. Water to the point of 20-50% runoff of the amount of water you put into the container. If possible, wait for an hour to allow the plant to hydrate and translocate water to the leaves.

Pro Growers Note: Plant pests/pathogens are often an underlying secondary sign of root zone problems. Z7 will help strengthen your plant so it will be easier to get it back to a healthy state. It is our estimation that over 80% of the growers who have insect and powdery mildew problems are fighting root zone issues!

18. When should I use Nuke Em® if I also use predatory insects?

Nuke Em® is a great choice to use as a knockdown treatment for runaway infestations BEFORE the release of predatory insects. Nuke Em® is an indiscriminate killer; If Nuke Em® is used after you release predatory insects it will kill them. Because Nuke Em® kills the invading insect’s eggs, the predatory insects have a much better chance of gaining control over your garden. Treat the area with Nuke Em® first. Once the Nuke Em® has dried it will not harm the predatory insects so it would be safe to disperse them in your garden at that time.

Standard application rate (Recommended): 4oz/gal Nuke Em® per gallon with 1-2 tsp of Spread Coat.

19. If I get Nuke Em® on me, will it hurt me?

The vast majority of people will not have an adverse effect to skin contact with Nuke Em® unless you have a citrus allergy. Avoid contact with your eyes. Do not ingest.

20. What are the most important things to remember when applying Nuke Em®?

Leaf Spray:

Shake the bottle vigorously before diluting. Flush the plant site with Z7 treated water. You should have 20-50% runoff from the bottom of the container than what you put into it. Wait one hour before applying Nuke Em® to ensure the plant is fully hydrated. This will significantly reduce the risk of burning the leaves or pistils. Turn intense, high-powered HID lighting down or off. We recommend the standard strength for most applications (4oz/gal). To increase the likelihood of complete coverage we recommend adding our wetting agent, SPREAD COAT.

Root Drench:

This application is only recommended if you have root pests ie root aphids, fungus gnats, thrips, etc. Shake the bottle vigorously before diluting. Our testing shows that you should not exceed the standard strength of Nuke Em® for this application method (4oz/gal). It is highly recommended to turn intense, high-powered HID lighting completely off during this process. Soak the planting site generously, ideally submerging the container, and let it sit in the treated Nuke Em® solution until all air bubbles stop. Remove from the treated solution and let sit for an hour. Thoroughly and completely rinse out the treated containers with Z7 treated water that is pH adjusted to your normal range. Try on one plant, wait 24-48 hours, and note if there are any adverse reactions before you mass apply. Some customers have had more effective coverage by adding our wetting agent, SPREAD COAT.

Commercial/Pro Growers Note: Check to see if the plant's growing medium is truly flushed by testing the run-off coming out of the bottom of the pot with a PPM meter. It should match the PPM of the water/solution you are putting into it. If the number is much higher than the PPM of the water/solution going in, we recommend flushing until you reach that ingoing number. This reduces toxic salt build up and enhances a plant’s overall performance.

21. I have a family member that is sick, will Nuke Em® affect a person's immune system?

No, Nuke Em® was specifically formulated with our customers’ health in mind. We wanted to make sure that you can trust our product to be free of any toxic chemicals or harmful ingredients. It is, however, important to note that Nuke Em® uses citric acid in its formula so consult your doctor about a possible allergic reaction to that ingredient.

22. Should I rinse Nuke Em® off after spraying it?

No, it is unnecessary to rinse Nuke Em® off because our product will not leave a residue or change the flavor/taste of your harvested product, even when used on the day of harvest! If you are battling mold or mildew, it is downright counterproductive to add more moisture to your plant than is necessary. Do not rinse off our product because it doesn’t leave a residue and you might even cause more harm than good!

23. Can I use Nuke Em® on hard surfaces like floors or walls to kill spores and pests in my growing area?

Yes, pests and pathogens can be on anything in the garden, so it only makes sense to use Nuke Em® everywhere. As long as there are no plants in the growing area, we recommend using 4-8oz/gal with 1-2 tsp of our wetting agent, SPREAD COAT.

24. Will the runoff from the Nuke Em® spray hurt my plants if it gets into its root zone?

No, we have not encountered issues to the root zone related to drippage caused by over spraying.

25. Can I spray Nuke Em® on top of other insecticides?

Yes, however, if you have recently sprayed oil/sulfur-based sprays then it is recommended to spray SPREAD COAT first to wash any residue left behind from them. Allow the plants to dry before applying your Nuke Em® solution. We haven’t found any negative reaction from other insecticides being sprayed on top of Nuke Em® but it is always recommended to test on one plant from each strain, waiting 24-48 hours, and checking for any adverse effects before mass applying.

Pro Growers Tip: Plants that are dehydrated will absorb sprays into the leaf if they can’t get water from their roots. Always flush the growing media with Z7 treated water so that that it achieves considerable runoff before applying Nuke Em®.

26. Should I spray Nuke Em® when HID lights are ON or OFF?

We generally recommend having your HID lights OFF when spraying Nuke Em®. Outdoor growers should spray when the plants are out of direct sunlight, preferably in the morning or evening. Turning your HID lights off is especially pertinent if plants are closer than 4ft from the plant canopy. In larger facilities, where HID lights can be hung more than 8 ft from the canopy, the grower might not have to turn off their lights to spray. To see if you can spray with your lights on, try it on a test plant first and wait 24-48 hours to note any adverse effects. If possible, try to leave your lights off until the spray has had time to dry.

Pro Growers Note: If you find that your leaves curl when using Nuke Em® it is likely that your plants were thirsty when they were sprayed. Even well-watered soil can contain a toxic amount of fertilizer which makes it difficult for the plant to uptake water. When a plant is overfertilized, it brings Nuke Em® into the leaf to try to hydrate itself. This is why it is important to water your plant’s growing medium well with Z7 treated water before spraying. This reduces the risk of burning the leaves or pistils by increasing turgor pressure inside the plant. Never spray Nuke Em® on a dehydrated plant!

27. Our produce must be tested for adverse pesticides, yeast, bacteria and molds/mildews. Will Nuke Em® make me fail any of these tests?

No, we have Nuke Em® tested for 59 adverse chemical pesticides and their ingredients known to fail lab tests. This includes aerobic/anaerobic bacteria, yeast, molds and mildews! These test results can be found HERE. A batch number is printed on the bottom of every bottle. On the lab test, adverse pesticide ingredients will show pass or fail. Lab testing for bacteria, yeast and mold will show <1 cfu (less than one colony forming unit). This is as close to zero as you can expect from any reputable lab.
